| Our approach |
![]() We provide the training required to administer medication as part of our popular Foundation workshop (also a useful refresher). We also train managers and supervisors how to assess the competency of their staff once they have had this basic training, on our Assessor workshop.
Training is delivered using a combination of THREE formats (distance learning plus online or paper assessment plus a practical workshop - in addition the Assessor workshop has extra handouts and a series of useful tools and documents issued on the day).
1/ TheoryWe all struggle to remember information from slides, flip charts, and theory-based workshops, therefore we provide the theory with our accredited workbooks (accredited by the College of Pharmacy Practice). Our workbooks cover the new 2010 Skills for Care Knowledge Set for Medication (QCF Unit 3047) and new Essential Standards for Quality and Safety from the Care Quality Commission. There are different versions various different care settings. You can stop here, i.e. purchase the books on their own (click here for prices and to order) or add step 2 - assessment.2/ AssessmentAfter reading the workbook, knowledge can be assessed using our e-learning modules or written assessments. The assessments provide managers and inspectors with a way to measure and evidence learning. You can purchase the workbooks plus assessments on their own or have them included as part of your practical Foundation workshop.
3/ Practical workshopKnowledge can then be put into practice in our practical workshops. All workshops are delivered by experienced pharmacists with a formal teaching qualification. Staff carry out practical tasks: completion of medicines charts for various scenarios; selection of medication; administration of oral liquids, inhalers, and eye drops. Deliberate errors are included which staff are expected to identify. We deliver these workshops across the UK at a venue to suit you.
Specialist training We also offer specialist workshops to train how to Administer Buccal Midazolam and Rectal Diazepam for Seizures. The theory is provided in the form of handouts which end with a small knowledge test once read. Handouts and assessments are read and sat before the practical workshop.
Continued learning and good practice
We also do a series of Intermediate workshops designed to expand upon someones knowledge of managing medication for people with varying support needs, from those with dementia to those with a learning disability. These workshops have comprehensive handouts to explain and cover some of the common issues faced. We also provide useful tools which are used by the group on the day to show how these issues can be avoided and managed.
